Since December 2019, cities around the world are being impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, a disease that spreads rapidly due to its easy transmission based on direct contact between people, a situation that has imposed physical distancing as a measure of protection. In this context, governments are being challenged to present solutions to guarantee the safe use of public spaces during the pandemic. This paper focus on a contemporary relationship between city and health, presenting three cases in Barcelona: the system of internal courtyards of Ensanche, the Supe- rilles program and the local emergency measures in response to Covid-19. In these three cases, it is possible to understand the role played by public space in a healthy city, as part of the pandemic response strategies. Methodologically, the work articulates field research, theoretical-conceptual references and bibliographic references of the cases, the last ones as a basis for the discussion. In this challenging socio- spatial context for the urban planning, a vicinity urbanism is revealed: a city with fewer displacements and a great diversity of spaces and services 1 km far from homes.
